Splash and splatter at Worlds of Wonder
Noida’s Worlds of Wonder is a round-the-week favourite of all. Its state-of-the art water park, enjoyable rides, and a full range of fun-filled outdoor and indoor activities make it a highly sought after amusement park in North India.
Its water park has four water pools that mimic the sea. Its floor, of course, should give a feeling of the seashore itself. But, that is not all that this floor has to do. Apart from helping create a make-believe world at the amusement park, the floor does much more—shielding children from injury.
A global park
Worlds of Wonder, Noida is owned by International Amusement Limited promoted by Swedish NRI, Gian Vijeshwar. The park has introduced several international rides in India. The water park was opened two years ago. The company had some unique flooring needs while building the water park, with safety of the patrons being the priority. “Safety was our priority as kids keep running from one place to other. They also keep falling all the time,” said Ankit Chandi, Sr. Manager, Park Operations at Worlds of Wonder, Noida. Some of these kids are toddlers making ‘safety’ a highly crucial factor for the park management. Added to that, children and adults briskly move around the pools in a bouncy mood and usually while being fully drenched. Their chances of slipping are much higher in such a state.
Global standards
The park had an international brand in mind for its flooring, Playtop of UK. Ecoflex being Playtop’s partner in India, it markets the brand in the country and bundles some services along with it. “We did not feel like we worked with an Indian company. Their service was world-class,” said Chandi while commenting on his dealings with Ecoflex.
Playtop was chosen for its rubbery cushioning that shields users from injuries and even reduces the incidences of falls. The flooring was also required to be exceptionally bright and colourful, and blend into the blue and other themes of the four pools.
Covering four pools—Wave, Splash, Little Splash, and Big Splash, Playtop flooring is spread across 1,140 square meters of the park’s area.
Extra cushioning
Worlds of Wonder is not a common water pool. In the peak of summers, its daily footfalls go up to as high as 10,000. To ensure safety, the company asked for extra thickness for its floor. “The standard thickness is 36 mm, but the company requested for 40 mm for better cushioning,” informed Captain Rakesh Agrawala, President – Projects at Ecoflex. “Due to huge traffic, Worlds of Wonder did not want the material to be compressed when a large number of people walk, play and run on the flooring at the same time,” Capt. Agrawala said.
The additional cushioning seems to have worked well for the park. Chandi informed that there had been no incidence of a child being hurt ever since Playtop flooring—with extra cushioning—was installed. “It’s also quite easy to clean the floor. It has not worn out, either. We haven’t spent a single rupee on its maintenance so far,” Chandi said.

In addition to flooring, Ecoflex installed a complimentary game for the little visitors of Worlds of Wonder. Called The UFO Game, it involves kids, or even adults, to step on lights to extinguish them as they switch on. A player has to extinguish as many lights as possible. “It’s a popular European game and has been introduced in India for the first time,” informed Capt. Agrawala. Located at the entrance of the children’s pool, it draws huge crowds, according to Chandi. |
